I've moved 8 times in my life (didn't know it was that many until writing this!) because of the military and I know the emotions behind it all too well.
It's exciting yet sobering. It reminds me of how quickly life can pass by without notice. About how people come and go in your life (and things are never quite the same again, even after making so many memories and they promise to keep in touch)
You've gone about it in the best way. Shifting to a lower gear when it comes to online content production is a great idea for you and your family.
Great points Keith. Wow, 8 moves is no joke. you have me beat. it’s so interesting all the ways changing our environment can impact our lives. Would love to read about your experiences of the different places you’ve lived if you’ve written about it or ever decide to.
Yeah that would be something to write about. I wrote about them when I was journaling, but never really focused on how the shift in environments affected me. I was too busy moving!
I definitely want to revisit that at some point. Moving brings up all kinds of emotions and feelings that can be hard to process before and after. For better or worse they fade with time.
well put. tons of emotions/feelings. i like to view these liminal spaces as a "fertile void". there's a natural process of letting go of some things and opening up to new stuff. but embracing the void reminds me not to rush the process or try to make meaning of it too quickly. instead, i try to just allow myself to stay in that space and see what emerges over time. not easy for me but very fruitful.
here's an interesting article that touches on the idea of "fertile void" within broader context of Gestalt Therapy (where i got it from):
What a thoughtful update. I know it must be a very full time in your life right now but yet you’ve found the ability to slow down and savor these last days. North Carolina will miss you!
